THS ATHLETICS & COVID-19

Updated 3/13/2020 5:40pm

The TUSD Board of Trustees met for an emergency meeting this afternoon at 3:30pm to discuss school closures as other districts have done today. It was a packed room with faculty, staff, students, and community members speaking for and against the closures. After 90 minutes of discussion, the Board of Trustees voted:

Starting Monday, March 16 through April 3rd, school is closed which also means athletics is shut down. No practices, workouts, contests, contact with athletes/coaches. There are no exceptions. This is for the sole purpose of keeping distance from each other to slow down or prevent the spread of the disease. Spring break will be April 6-10th. We will evaluate before the "spring break" week to determine if it's appropriate for athletics to start practicing again. The plan is to have students return to school on April 13th.

Please let me know if you have any questions. We are following suite with what the other districts are doing, so everyone's athletic programs are shut down around the same time.

POLICY FOR

PRACTICES & GAMES

ATHLETES: Please review the athletic attendance policy--you must attend 2 periods on practice days and you MUST attend all periods on the day of a contest until you are released. Doctor or dentist visits with a signed note by the doctor are the ONLY valid excuses for missing class on game day. Personal reasons or illness (even with a parent note) are NOT excuses and you will be ineligible for your next contest. If you have questions, please see Coach Franklin.

Do you need to submit your completed Blue Card? The new athletic office is now located in the front administration building! Blue Cards may only be submitted, in person, to the athletic director (Coach Franklin) and athletics clerk (Mrs. Delisle). Thank you for your cooperation and diligence with this process.

ATHLETES:

Do you have a doctor's note or medical clearance to return to participation in sports?

Welcome back! Doctor's notes are accepted by the athletic trainer ONLY. Coaches or other staff do not accept these notes. Thank you!
