Mock trial is an extra-curricular program designed to help students learn about our judicial system, develop analytical abilities and communication skills, and understand their obligations as members of our society. The program involves about 36 California counties, over 8000 students, and hundreds of volunteers. The team is coached by teachers, volunteer attorneys and former students.
Guided by attorney and teacher coaches, students work together in teams, exchange ideas, set goals, examine issues, and develop presentation skills. The THS team meets after school to prepare for the county competition. Team members also test their ideas and presentations in scrimmages with other teams from our county and around the state.
The San Luis Obispo County competition occurs in late January and early February, with up to six rounds of trials. The county champion attends the State Finals in March. Templeton has appeared in the county finals sixteen consecutive years and has gone to the state tournament ten times. THS finished in the top 10 at state in its last two appearances.
